The Dub Reggae Kit

Ire and Dubful Greetings!

Thank you for your interest in this loop set brought to you by LOOPWISE.com. The loops are created by Messian Dread (drums, percussion), Sure Dread (Keyboards) and Imro Fedor (conga). Messian Dread is a pioneer in Dub creations on the computer. His midifiles are spread all over the Internet and his mp3 files are a regular guest in Dub download charts. He has shown with his works, that good dub music can be constructed with a computer. Sure Dread is a very good keyboard player, as you can hear in the loops, his organ bubbles are as authentic as reggae shuffles can be. His melodic reggae is downloaded a lot of times every day. Imro Fedor is the drummer for Jah Roots, and he is also a good conga player.

You can roughly divide the loops in two main sections: midi and audio. The midiloops are all set at a base tempo of 160 BPM, but the advancement of midi over audio is that you can easily change tempo to make it fit your own mood and inspiration. You'll find a great variety of authentic reggae drums in different styles: from the meditative one-drop to the highly dancable rub a dub rhythms to militant steppers. The loops also come in both triplets ("swing") as well as straights so you'll have lot's to choose from. The audioloops consist of ten construction kits, each having their own speed and feel (straight or swing). In each kit you'll find 25 loops in CD Quality Wav format. They consist of 4 basslines and accompanying organ shuffles and skank hits, easily labeled (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b), 5 drumloops, five drum fills, and 5 percussion loops. Some rhythms are quantizes, some are not. Every kit comes with a conga loop played by Imro Fedor on Supercussion conga's. Ofcourse you can use the kit as foundation for a track, and sing or play additional stuff over it.

Here is a scheme of the audioloops:

AUDIO LOOPS
MELODY: 4 BASS LINES 4 ORGAN BUBBLES 2 CHORD HITS
RHYTHM: 5 DRUM LOOPS 5 DRUM FILLS 5 PERCUSSION

RIDDIM NR. SORT STRAIGHT/TRIPLES SPEED (BPM)

2 TWO DROP TRIPLETS 140
3 STEPPERS STRAIGHT 130
4 ONE DROP TRIPLETS 150
5 TWO DROP STRAIGHT 140
6 STEPPERS TRIPLETS 130
7 ONE DROP STRAIGHT 130

Messian Dread about the audioloops: "You can insert the audio loops in your favorite audio sequencer any manner you like: Cakewalk, Cubase, Acid. Make any sequence you like with them by inserting a loop in the 1st count of every 4th measure. It's important that you set the right volume for each instrument. Normally, put conga's and other percussion instruments more on the background, the organs a little higher then the percussion, and put in the drums and single skanks pretty loud. The bass should be omni-present but not so loud that you don't hear the other instruments. After you've created the sequence (is loop-order) of your choice, it's time to make a dub. There's not something as a course in Dub, but I can give you some principals. Let your creativety and inspiration do the rest. Dub is created, by taking stuff out. Most of the time, the bass and the drums are playing, while the other channels are being faded in and out. Effects are applied over the drums and the instruments as they fade in and out. Single hits are being isolated, and put through an echo or reverb. Let your feeling tell you where to put the instruments in and out, just make sure that the bass and the drum play in a big part of the mix (or not, whatever you want...).
